Honoring the Legacy of Theresa Watson

As some may have heard, TMS team member Theresa Watson passed on two weeks ago. During her work as an instructor and site coordinator for TMS (beginning in 2018), Theresa was a fierce advocate for the youth she served, an exceptional talent and an inspirational educator. The MusicianShip Staff and Students will miss Theresa dearly, but will continue to honor her legacy of musicianship, scholarship, and excellence. Theresa Reneé Watson was born August 25th, 1995, in Washington DC. She was an accomplished graduate of Duke Ellington School of the Arts, the University of the District of Columbia (Bachelor’s of Music), and North Carolina Central University (Master’s of Music). Theresa Reneé was a vocal powerhouse and a 2x nominated Wammie artist for her 2020 project, Fortitude. She inspired students in the classroom and throughout the music scene nationally and internationally.Theresa was a Nneena Freelon “Jazz in July” scholarship recipient, where she studied under jazz legend Sheila Jordan. She has performed for Barack Obama and at the Lincoln Center. Theresa headlined North Carolina’s Bimbi Festival, The Playlist Series, and the Aretha Franklin Tribute.
